No, it's not part of a street scene for Downton Abbey it's actually the scene of a dramatic meeting of minds being created in the studio and the first glimpse that the Sherlock Sidewinder gets of his arch enemy.
I said I was going to go overboard with the sets and the acquisition of a scroll saw and other assorted tools has allowed me to expand into building full scenes with oodles of details. The above building is made from cardboard, cocktail and match sticks, balsa wood, paper and paint. Even the big slabs of stone attached to the front is created and fixed seperately after taking accurate measurements and scaling them down to make sure they fit exactly. I wanted the level of detail to be extraordinary and match the narrative so additional details will be added at the painting stage.
This is halfway through the shooting, you will see a lamp has been added lit by a quick bit of wiring I made and blogged about earlier. You can see some of the characters in place ready for the final shots but to get the realism in this piece I had to shoot in the dark to cast dramatic shadows over the set. Around two days work for a handful of photographs that will form the painting, from this a black and white oil sketch will be produced, then a colour one to get the balance right followed by a whopping 48''x36'' original and around two months from start to finish.
Moriarty is coming.
